About Me
Welcome, and congratulations on taking the first step in working towards your goals and resolving your problems. Taking the first step is usually the hardest so you have already overcome one obstacle.
I work from a strength based reality approach. In other words, I believe that everyone has strengths and if we can identify those strengths together, we can perhaps help you to work through or manage your problems. Working from the reality base is just like it sounds. That is, we have to work with whatever realities that you have, and work towards changing that if that is one of your goals. I believe that no matter how bad some things might feel; it is never hopeless.
My counseling style is warm and interactive, but straight forward. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in labels or judging, and there are no problems to small or problems to big. I think you will find that are sessions are more conversational and I am pretty straight forward. I won't bog you down with a bunch of psychological babble.
My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, strength-based, and reality based methods, but I will do my best to tailor the dialogue to suit your needs.
Because everyone is different and different problems for different people mean different things, I will ask questions on how things relate and affect you. Of course, you can ask any questions at anytime.
A little bit about my qualifications. I hold a doctorate in Health Sciences focusing on mental health, and a master's in Social Work. I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 17 years of experience working as a counselor and a life coach. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including Depression; Anxiety, Social Anxiety; Social Isolation; BiPolar Disorder; PTSD; LGBTQ issues; Relationship issues; Parenting problems; Career challenges; Sleep problems; Migraines; School/University issues, and Self-esteem/Confidence issues.
Something personal about me: I love to travel, I volunteer at my local court to advocate for children that have been abused or neglected and have been removed from their home. I have been doing this pro bono work for 13 years.
I look forward to working with you. I am here to try and help.
My Availability: I usually will respond within 24 or hours, sometimes more frequently with the exception of holidays and weekends. However, I have a lot of flexibility to meet with your individual schedule.
