Tom Andre
About Me
Welcome. My name is Tom and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist working in Los Angeles and El Segundo, California. I’m also a father. And a music lover. And a son. And a voter. A husband. Student. Brother. Grandson. Uncle. Sports fan. Nephew. Cousin. Camper. Person. Citizen. Tennis player. Friend. Acquaintance. Traveler. Reader. Hiker. Baseball player. Employee. Boss. Writer. Teacher. Coach. Producer. Consumer. Therapist. Angeleno. New Orleanian. These are just some of my identities - some of the many hats I wear and have worn. I will certainly wear more in the future.
No doubt you wear just as many hats as I do. All of us are so much more than a box to check off. We all fit into multiple categories, or maybe none all. To paraphrase Walt Whitman: We are large. We contain multitudes.
Sometimes life, or society, or loved ones try to tell us who we should be and how we should live our lives. Often that's when problems come in. I have a special interest in helping people fight to fully inhabit their preferred identities and align their lives with what they feel is meaningful.
Working from a position of warmth and curiosity, I ask a lot of questions designed to help clients highlight what matters most to them, to evaluate how to move forward, and sometimes when to take action against the problems of life. Often, once the questions "Who am I?" and "What do I stand for?" begin to be addressed, many other important dilemmas start to become clearer as well.
In 2015, after ten years of working in media, entertainment and sales, I went to graduate school to become a therapist. In a previous life, I produced a music festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Cartagena, Colombia, and learned to speak and write both Spanish and Portuguese. I was born and raised in New Orleans and have lived in Los Angeles since 2006. I hold a master’s degree from Phillips Graduate University and a bachelor’s from Princeton University.
Writing availability: I check messages Monday through Friday and sometimes on weekends as well. For shorter messages, I will try to respond within 24 hours. Longer messages may require a bit more time to reflect and respond, but I'll acknowledge them once I've read them. We will work together to establish a rhythm that makes sense based on circumstances.
Phone availability: I am open to weekly 30 minute phone conversations in lieu of writing, or a combination of shorter conversations with writing. I am happy to adjust to what works best on an ongoing basis.
